Planetary scale simulation

Researchers in ACES research employ state-of-the-art numerical simulations to develop and test ideas about planetary dynamics. Computational Earth science studies on ACES will include problems ranging from small-scale ocean turbulence calculations to multi-million year mantle convection simulations and from atmospheric cloud process studies to ocean ecosystem behaviors. All the studies are linked by a common of goal of developing understanding of the workings of planetary systems. The figures below show images from the sorts of calculations that will be carried out on the ACES hardware.
